The Philanthropic Connection. Cigna believes that investing in the health of our communities directly connects with our overall success. The Cigna Foundation is an important part of that strategy.
This independent, charitable entity works to enhance individual and community health by finding people with energy and ideas, and helping them turn their passions into productive solutions. Here are a few examples of the Cigna Foundation vision in action:
New in 2014! The Cigna Foundation is initiating an exciting new approach to improving individual and community health. Cigna World of Difference Grants offer significant support to organizations working to improve women's health, children's wellness, senior care and health equity - the four social issue priorities of Cigna's corporate responsibility platform, Cigna Connects. The goal? Nourishing "incubators for innovation" that build on local successes to positively impact health, well-being and sense of security in communities world-wide.
Global Solutions: Healthy Workplace Awards and Summit
The Global Healthy Workplace Awards and Summit, sponsored by the Cigna Foundation, brought an international array of experts and others interested in the field of workplace health to London. There they "learned from the leaders"-representatives of six companies whose job-based health programs were recognized as exemplary by a distinguished panel of judges. Shanghai, China is the site of a second global Summit in 2014.
The Power of the Individual: GO YOU Awards
Cigna takes the lead in leveraging what’s unique in every individual to make sure everyone it serves enjoys a healthier life. And the 2013 Cigna GO YOU Awards honored individuals who leveraged their own personal passions to create organizations that help those they serve enjoy better health. To help celebrate its 50th year of service, the Cigna Foundation provided $70,000 in grants to honoree Clarissa Black’s Pets for Vets organization.
Improving Health Actively: ChildObesity180
Cigna's approach to addressing health concerns is to find what's working for some, and helping make it work for many. The ChildObesity180 Active Schools Acceleration Project (ASAP) follows this formula. ASAP discovers schools with exceptional physical activity programs. Then they provide other schools support to establish similar programs to help their students stay fit. Major Cigna Foundation funding is helping make it happen.
Doing Good, Feeling Better: Healthy Lifestyle Grants
Cigna fully understands that individuals enjoy healthier, more productive lives when they devote some of their time to helping their neighbors. The Cigna Foundation’s Healthy Lifestyle Grants make that healthy living → healthy giving connection even stronger. Cigna employees can direct a $100 grant to charity whenever they take part in certain organized physical activities. And Cigna Foundation $200 Grants for Givers go to organizations where employees regularly volunteer.
These are just a few of the ways the Cigna Foundation is making an active contribution to the health of communities around the globe. For ongoing, up-to-date information on major Cigna Foundation initiatives, view Cigna in the Community News Releases in the Cigna Newsroom.
