Herb Fritch joined Cigna in February of 2012 to lead the company through a strategic expansion into the growing seniors and Medicare market. As President of Cigna-HealthSpring, he is responsible for solidifying Cigna’s presence as a leading health service company for the growing U.S. seniors market and guiding new opportunities for customers as they transition from their careers into retirement years.
Prior to joining Cigna, Fritch founded HealthSpring, one of the largest and fastest growing coordinated care plans serving the Medicare and Medicaid market. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer since the commencement of operations in September 2000 until the acquisition by Cigna.
Before founding HealthSpring, he founded and served as President of North American Medical Management, Inc., an independent physician association management company from 1991 to 1999. Prior to that, he worked as Regional Vice President at Partners National HealthPlans; founded a regional managed care company called Sanus Corp. Health Systems; and served as a consulting actuary at Milliman and Robertson.
An actuary by training, Fritch is an industry thought leader who brings with him nearly 40 years of experience in the health care field. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Carleton College and is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the Academy of Actuaries.
