Environmental sustainability is one of the most important aspects of Cigna corporate social responsibility. Our strategy is to reduce our overall carbon footprint more each year.
One of our green initiatives is a shift from air travel to rail travel in some of our top markets. Our Carbon Footprint Summary (2006-2009) gives a detailed overview of the rate of annual improvement.
Grassroots efforts
Our GreenSTEPS (Sustainability Team for Environmental Protection and Stewardship) organization gives over 300 Cigna volunteers the opportunity to work together to carry out localized "green" projects. This group is committed to finding ways to reduce the environmental impact of our business activities and move toward sustainable processes. The GreenSTEPS website serves to:
- Educate employees on eco-friendly practices
- Communicate progress on "green" initiatives
- Provide a place for employees to submit questions, tips and best practices
