Mark Boxer assumed the role of Chief Information Officer in April 2011. Boxer has executive leadership responsibility for driving Cigna's world wide technology strategy and ensuring the company's infrastructure and applications are innovative, flexible and aligned with the business strategy and the needs of customers, partners and employees.

Boxer is a seasoned IT professional with decades of technology and operations experience in the health care sector. He has been recognized as one of Computerworld's "Premier 100" Leaders and by Insurance and Technology Magazine as one of their "Elite Eight" Technologists.

Most recently, he was the Group President, Government Health Care for ACS/Xerox and Global Deputy Chief Information Officer for the Xerox Corporation. He previously served as the Chief Information Officer and Chief Operations Officer at WellPoint, head of Corporate Strategy, and chaired the board of the WellPoint subsidiary company, Administar Services.

Previously with Cigna, Boxer held the position of Senior Vice Vice President, National Service Technology, led Cigna's eCommerce practice, and assumed the role of CIO at Healthsource, leading its integration into the company. Before first coming to Cigna, Boxer held senior management roles at HP (Digital Equipment) in consulting and outsourcing, including BPO practice leader, managing director of outsourcing for the U.S. and Europe, CTO for the corporate IT function and as a business unit CIO.

Boxer received the Tony Coelho Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Award in 2007, and shared with two congressmen the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) "Justice for All" Award in 2008 for his advocacy for employment of the disabled. In addition, he serves on the boards of the University of Connecticut Foundation and the Stevens Johnson Syndrome Foundation, and is a trustee of the Bushnell Performing Arts Center.

Boxer holds a Doctor of Science in Global Public Health from Arizona's School of Health Sciences. Boxer completed additional fellowship work in public health and health information technology at the University of Connecticut. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Science degree in Information Systems from Drexel University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics from the University of Hartford.   Boxer serves on the adjunct faculty at the University of Connecticut.
