William Atwell

William Atwell, Cigna PresidentPresident, Cigna International

Bill Atwell was appointed President of Cigna International in August 2008. In this capacity, Atwell maintains executive management responsibility for Cigna's global business unit, which delivers access to superior quality health care and innovative financial protection programs to businesses, affinity groups and individuals around the world.

Atwell brings more than 30 years of experience from a variety of senior positions, including four years with Cigna HealthCare as Senior Vice President in the former National Sales & Delivery Network.

Before being named President of Cigna International, Atwell provided market insights and consulting to the retail financial industry, while also serving on the Boards of USI Holdings Corporation and Fairfield University. Prior to that, he served for six years as a senior executive with Charles Schwab Corporation, responsible for a broad array of individual investment products and services, and also led efforts to build their international business. Atwell lived in Brussels during his 23 years with Citibank, where he led their retail business in Belgium, France and Luxembourg.

Atwell is a graduate of C.W. Post College and earned an M.B.A. from Long Island University. He currently serves on the Boards of Fairfield University, the Eisenhower Fellowship Foundation, AQR Mutual Funds (AQR Capital Management LLC), and as Vice Chair of the Cigna & CMC Life Insurance Company of China.
