“I have been a qualified nurse for over 30 years. Before I joined Cigna, I spent my time nursing in the medical, surgical, orthopaedic, paediatric and gynaecology specialties in NHS. However, I wanted to diversify and liked Cigna’s ethos, so I joined Cigna as a care management nurse.
I developed many skills in this role and was promoted to team coach. I have now progressed to Nurse Manager where no two days are the same. I have been involved in many strategic projects during my time here. I really enjoyed the Health Care Choices project as it stretched everyone involved, we worked within very tight time scales and everyone pulled together to complete the project well and in time.”
Current Role: Actuarial Manager, Hong Kong
Length of time with Cigna: 5 years
Johnathan’s journey in Cigna Hong Kong actuarial team started as a Senior Executive in 2009, promoted to Assistant Manager in 2011 and Manager in 2013. His next role will be as Associate Director, Strategic Finance in Global Office in July 2014.
Johnathan has this to say about his time with the company:
“I feel most fortunate to be working in such a great Company and to come across all the wonderful people, who are very talented and have been offering advice and help in my career development. I found myself growing rapidly with all the diverse opportunities - across the organization - never limited to product pricing in Hong Kong.
I am very impressed by how seriously Cigna is committed to develop and invest in the staff. In my case, I am particularly grateful for the global exposure though I only belong to local Hong Kong operations. I have been to Cambodia & Malaysia for conference, New Zealand for best practice exchanges and Spain for staff award. But the highlight is definitely the 5-month rotation program in Philadelphia, US, in which I gained the valuable hands-on experience of working (and living) in the US and built an extensive network of friends.
It is never easy to accurately predict the future (even for actuaries), yet I foresee there will be more exciting and rewarding challenges ahead in my new role in Global Office.”

Stuart initially joined the Claims Team and moved to Underwriting after two years. He was promoted to his current role earlier this year.

“I have been provided with excellent opportunities to progress throughout the company and develop my skills since joining Cigna. There has always been a clear career progression path in front of me within each department, but at the same time there have always been opportunities to move within departments and utilise skills in a new environment if desired.
My current role offers the chance to liaise with colleagues (both internal and external) throughout the company, which is interesting and allows me to experience new cultures and viewpoints.”
