Dr. James Burgess, Gastroenterology
What is your hometown?
I am originally from Montana and attended medical school at the University of Washington. After attending medical school, I completed my residency at Henepy County Medical in Minneapolis and my fellowship at the University of Colorado.
What brought you to Phoenix?
I came to Phoenix to worke at the County hospital as part of my commitment to the government for my scholarship. I really enjoyed the area and decided to stay!
How did you choose your area of Specialty?
Gastroenterology seemed very interesting to me. During my residency at Henepy County Medical, I met a Gastroneurologist, the two of us got a long great and the specialty seemed like a great fit for me.
Do you have any areas of special interest?
Some of the procedures I do the most are colon cancer screenings. Early detection is the best way to help avoid spread of the disease. I like to know that I am finding problems when there still might be a chance to help the patients.
What made you decide to work at CMG?
I met one of my future colleagues; Dr. Neil Schernoff and he told me about what a great place it was to work. He basically recruited me. I also knew some other physicians who were working here at the time, and everyone had only great things to say about practicing at Cigna Medical Group.
