Endoscopy is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure designed to examine and diagnose surfaces of internal organs through the use of a long flexible tube that is attached to a lens, light and camera. Endoscopy can also be used to retrieve and remove foreign object lodged within the body. Endoscopy is an outpatient service and the patients generally feel little or no pain.
Endoscopy is most commonly used for exploratory diagnosis in the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, urinary tract, the female reproductive system, and during pregnancy.
