Maryland Insurance Administration Amends Bulletin Regarding Dependant Eligibility
The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) released an amended version of Bulletin 07-17 on December 4. The MIA released the original bulletin on October 25 to provide insurers with a notice that must be sent to policyholders explaining the criteria under which children attaining age 18 may remain eligible for health coverage as a dependant. The amended version provides different notice requirements for carriers subject to §15-416 (insurers, nonprofit health service plans and HMOs that deliver or issue for delivery in Maryland individual, group, or blanket health insurance policies and contracts), and those subject to §15-418 (individual or group health insurance that is issued in the state by health insurers, nonprofit health service plans and HMOs).
