CIGNA Study Reveals Information Employers Need to Know
Economic downturns are a time when people really want to get their arms around their financial health and security. CIGNA recently completed a two-part survey1 on individual perceptions about return-to-work topics and the value of disability insurance – part of ongoing CIGNA research on "Health and Well-being in America." The first part of the survey revealed that for the majority of Americans, work means a lot more to them than a paycheck to cover the bills. Most people link work and well-being, and feel unproductive, worried, and depressed when they're out of work because of an injury or illness. Click here for more information about how employers can address these needs. The second part of the survey results were released during Disability Insurance Awareness Month in May. They showed nearly all respondents value disability insurance to help protect their income. However, the survey also revealed that significant knowledge gaps exist in terms of workers' awareness of their personal need for coverage, as well as the cost of insurance through their employer. And, most workers say they are looking to employers for help and advice. Click here for more tools and resources to help employers. By providing access to disability insurance coverage - and offering advice to help them choose the right coverage to meet their needs – employers can not only help employees strengthen their financial security, but can also build stronger employee loyalty and trust.
