Protecting information at CIGNA
CIO Digest interviews CIGNA's Craig Shumard

As the health benefits industry grows more deeply entrenched in the age of information, Internet-based tools are playing an increasing role in day-to-day business. But the gains in speed and efficiency come with significant risks, as hackers and cyberthieves take aim at large corporations. In this PDF file feature article (PDF 1.2 mb) from the January-February 2007 issue of CIO Digest, senior vice president of information protection Craig Shumard explains how CIGNA is working to keep information safe and secure.

Health coverage now available for retired expatriates
CIGNA International offers program for retirees living in other countries

Finding health care coverage can be a challenge for retirees living outside their home countries. The U.S. Medicare program generally does not provide coverage for beneficiaries living overseas, and social security programs of other countries frequently provide limited or no coverage for beneficiaries who reside outside of their home countries. Fortunately, CIGNA International Expatriates Benefits (CIEB), which helps employees living or traveling abroad gain access to appropriate care, now offers a benefit program for expatriate retirees and their eligible dependents. Under the new program, CIEB clients that have purchased a medical policy for their expatriate workforce on assignment outside their home countries can elect to extend benefits to their retiree population.

Bringing health and wellness to the workplace
New program offers employees onsite access to wellness screenings and health coaching

Preventive care is an essential part of staying healthy, but consumers often feel too busy to take the time to attend wellness screenings. Recognizing convenience as an opportunity to increase participation in health and wellness programs, CIGNA now offers a program that brings screenings and associated services to the workplace. Sessions can be scheduled during the business hours, as well as on nights and weekends, to provide confidential screenings for cholesterol, glucose levels, blood pressure, height/weight/waist circumference and body mass index (BMI). Immediately following the screenings, employees can meet one-on-one with a health coach. CIGNA HealthCare is offering the program in collaboration with Health Solutions, a national health risk identification and health improvement firm.
