CIGNA HealthCare Signs Agreement with St. John's Health System

CIGNA HealthCare and St. John’s Health System have announced that effective July 15, 2008, CIGNA members will be able to visit any of St. John’s six hospitals throughout southwest Missouri. The non-exclusive contract encompasses all of St. John’s Health System’s hospitals and affiliated physician practices. As of July 15, St. John’s Health System will be the only health system in CIGNA's southwest Missouri network.

“Our goal is to offer employers and members an expansive provider network. The addition of St. John’s six hospitals to CIGNA's network furthers our ability to offer members quality care,” said Frank Monahan, president and general manager, CIGNA HealthCare of Missouri. “We are pleased to give our members access to these quality providers.”

St. John’s Health System has hospitals located in Springfield, Lebanon, Mountain View, Aurora, Cassville and Berryville, Arkansas and includes St. John's Clinic with 460 physicians and 140 mid-level and allied health practitioners. Combined, the hospitals have over 1000 beds.

“St. John’s welcomes CIGNA members and is gearing up a program to assist patients with transition of care to St. John’s providers," said Kim Day, St. John's president / CEO. "We know patients will be pleased with the level of care and expertise provided by St. John’s physicians and staff, as our patient satisfaction scores rank among the highest in the country for both our hospital and our physicians. With the opening of our new 300-bed patient tower in Springfield, we will have the capacity to serve new patients with a new state-of-the-art facility.”

Experienced Local Leadership

Frank Monahan, General Manager
Frank Monahan is the general manager of CIGNA HealthCare’s operations in Kansas and Missouri and is based in St. Louis. Monahan is a seasoned executive with 15 years of sales and marketing experience in the health care industry. Monahan is responsible for new sales and account management in the Kansas and Missouri markets and oversees a sales team of more than 30 professionals. He is also responsible for fostering and deepening relationships with employers, providers, brokers and consultants in the state.

A Pennsylvania native, Monahan earned his bachelor’s degree from LaSalle University in Philadelphia. Monahan most recently served as vice president and general manager of large group sales for Premera Corporation. Prior to joining Premera Corporation, Monahan was vice president of sales, marketing and field operations for Capital Blue Cross. In addition, he held various sales and marketing positions at Aetna.
