HealthCare Frequently Asked QuestionsCoverage InformationCoverage Information
Is my CIGNA HealthCare coverage effective? To inquire about your coverage, call the Customer Service number on your CIGNA HealthCare ID card or click here to go to myCIGNA.com. I just enrolled through my employer. How long does it take to process my enrollment form? The enrollment process can take anywhere from six to eight weeks. Once you enroll through your employer, it can take up to four weeks before CIGNA HealthCare receives your eligibility information. When your eligibility information is received, your information will be loaded into our computer system and your ID Card is ordered. If you need to seek medical care before your ID card arrives, a copy of your enrollment form will serve as proof of insurance and can be used as a temporary ID card. However, the provider may still require that you pay for services up front and then submit a claim for reimbursement once your eligibility information has been received. If it has been over 30 days since you enrolled, please check with your employer to determine if the necessary paperwork has been submitted. Can I join if I have a pre-existing condition? Yes, you may join if you have a pre-existing condition. A pre-existing condition is an illness or condition for which you have been diagnosed, received treatment or incurred expenses before you chose CIGNA HealthCare. However, there may be limitations on coverage for pre-existing conditions. Those limitations will depend upon the plan your employer has chosen, the requirements of your state and federal mandates. How do I add a dependent? Contact your human resources department. They're familiar with your plan's specific information and can assist you on how to add a dependent to your health benefits coverage. Is my child still covered while he/she is in college? CIGNA HealthCare requires some type of "proof" that a dependent is still a full-time student, usually a letter from the school, a full-time college schedule, a paid tuition bill, etc. Eligible children must be unmarried and legally dependent on the subscriber. The standards vary by employer plans. The standards usually are 19 years old for dependents and 23 to 25 years old for a full-time student. Please call Customer Service to confirm the age limit for your plan. Should your child no longer meet the definition of a full-time student or is older than the limiting age, COBRA coverage may be available. Please see your benefits manager. I was told that I was canceled. What do I do? Contact your human resources department. They're familiar with your plan's specifics and can assist you with your eligibility information. What is COBRA and am I eligible for COBRA coverage? COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) is a Federal law that requires employers to offer employees and their beneficiaries, upon leaving the company, the opportunity to purchase continued health care coverage under the groups medical plan. If your employer has 20 or more employees, you may be eligible to continue coverage under this Federal extension of benefits. Under this type of plan, you would be able to keep your current insurance coverage for up to 18 months and pay the individual rates directly to your employer. This continuation of coverage could possibly last as long as 36 months for dependents who lose coverage for certain reasons (qualifying events) other than employment loss by the employee. A qualifying event is any of the following:
A qualified beneficiary is any person, who, on the day before the qualifying event, was covered under the plan as an employee, spouse, or child dependent. By law, your former employer must provide you with the COBRA enrollment materials within 45 days after your last day worked. Please contact the Benefit Administrator with your former employer. They will also be able to provide you with information on how much your COBRA premiums would be. I'm on COBRA. What happens if I didn't pay my COBRA premium on time? Your coverage may show a cancellation date. However, once your late premium is received your coverage can be reinstated. Please call your COBRA administrator immediately. If you don’t know who administers your COBRA coverage, please contact Customer Service at the toll-free telephone number located on your CIGNA HealthCare ID card. They will be able to tell you the status of your coverage and who to call regarding your COBRA plan. |
