Motivation for joining The Tour In my role as a medical director with CIGNA I see the consequences of neglected health and the suffering it can lead to.  I see the Tour as a chance to show, not just tell, people that your average non-athletic, overweight boomer can make significant changes for the better in his or her health. I am looking forward to many things “On Tour”, but mostly witnessing  the impact we can have on peoples lives.
Reasons for adopting an active lifestyle

I have always considered myself fitter than average, but by no means athletic.  However, in 2004 I lost my left hand in an accident and quickly assumed a more sedentary lifestyle.  My “aha” moment came in December 2005 when, after moving up 2 waist sizes, I was still in need of a bit more room. That, with a family history of premature heart disease and a young family to look after, led me to commit to a healthier lifestyle.  I began cycling regularly, lost the weight, made many new friends, and have found a new addiction – cycling!

Why a healthy lifestyle is important A healthy lifestyle is important to me simply because it makes me feel good mentally and physically.
One piece of advice to help others live a healthier life Start gradually and make small changes.  Set a pace and goals that are realistic.  Remember, slow and steady wins the race.
