Motivation for joining The Tour Because of an extended hospital stay following brain surgery in '93, I learned first hand how overburdened our hospitals and staff are due to overweight/out of shape Americans. I vowed then that I was going to take a much more active role in becoming and staying healty... and I'm maintaining that promise.
Reasons for adopting an active lifestyle What I learned from my brain surgery.
Why a healthy lifestyle is important In being fit, one can become more energetic both at home and at work. Being fit makes me feel good about myself, a confidence booster, and gives me that, "can do" spirit that is so vital.
One piece of advice to help others live a healthier life What helps keep me on the healthy track is to plan workout goals depending on the quality of the food I eat. For instance, if I have a reasonable fish dinner that night, my goal may be to take a rest day the following day. However, if I eat fatty foods, I plan a big workout and give myself little workout penances for eating poorly, such as planning to run or bike further or lift an extra set of weights It's kind of a checks and balance system.
