Motivation for joining The Tour Promote healthy living, face the challenge of a 400 mile bike ride, and interaction with fellow CIGNA employees. I look forward to meeting new people and sharing the reality that a healthy lifestyle is something everyone can attain.
Reasons for adopting an active lifestyle I've always been involved in sports (collegiate golf, hockey, rock climbing, cycling) so I've always lived a healthy lifestyle, more or less. As I've gotten older I've had to focus more on the choices I make to maintain health and fitness. The revelation came two years ago, having moved to Pittsburgh from California in 2003, that I'd put on 20 lbs in two years. I realized that although my living situation had changed my lifestyle didn't have to change with it and I began making better choices about diet and exercise. I adapted to my new environment. In California I was used to being outdoors year round, my options are more limited in Pittsburgh and that has forced me to pay more attention to my fitness routines and diet. In the end, it boils down to making health a priority and making personal choices consistent with that.
Why a healthy lifestyle is important Feeling good and having to see the doctor for yearly visits only.
One piece of advice to help others live a healthier life Start small, make simple choices every day and build on those. Drink water instead of soda, try to walk whenever possible, eat well but eat smart. View this as a life long process and strive to make improvements continuously.
