Motivation for joining The Tour I want to be an example for my family, friends and co–workers that taking your health seriously can be fun and need not be a burden. I am not a great athlete by any means so by making this commitment to the Health Awareness Tour, I am trying to convey that being healthy is as easy as taking every opportunity to make the right choice. This tour is the right choice for me.
Reasons for adopting an active lifestyle As I moved into the adult world with more responsibilities, I lost focus on my health due to all of life's normal events such as marriage, work, children and various stresses in my life. Many of my family members are overweight and I was heading down that road as my metabolism began to slow down with age. I am only 5'9" tall, but by the time I was 27, I weighed over 200 pounds. I want to break the family chain of becoming overweight for my children by showing them how to remain active as they grow older. I'm also hoping this will motivate my younger brother and older sister to take up some form of exercise.
Why a healthy lifestyle is important I want to remain as active as possible throughout my life and enjoy as much as I can with my family and friends. I want to be that old guy that can still hang with guys half my age on the weekly rides. Being active and healthy buys me more time as I grow older to still enjoy all the activities that make life worth living.
One piece of advice to help others live a healthier life As Nike says, "Just Do It." The hardest part to being active and healthy is just making the mental choice to start. Once that hurdle is crossed, it only gets easier to continue down the path of health awareness.
