Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA):

What is Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA)?

Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) is the electronic equivalent of the Explanation of Payment. An ERA provides details on how your claims were paid and/or why they were denied.

What are the benefits of ERA?

ERA helps improve your business office workflow and productivity. The ERA is automatically loaded in your accounts receivable system, allowing you more time to focus on caring for your patients.

How can I start receiving ERAs?

If you wish to receive ERAs:

  • request the CIGNA registration form from the clearinghouse you use, and
  • return your completed registration form to the clearinghouse.

The clearinghouse will send the completed form to the CIGNA HealthCare Provider Data Organization (PDO) for processing. The PDO will complete the registration within 10 days and you may begin receiving an ERA on the next payment cycle.

If you do not have an existing relationship with a clearinghouse, you can contact Emdeon at 1.877.469.3263 or at www.webmdenvoy.com.

For a cost-effective alternative to paying clearinghouse transaction fees, contact Post-N-Track™ at 1.860.632.0572 or visit www.post-n-track.com. The software for this Web-based service lets you submit claims directly to and receive ERAs directly from CIGNA HealthCare. Post-N-Track software is offered free to CIGNA HealthCare participating providers. The interactive EDI transactions are also available via Post-N-Track.
