Out of 100 people who have back surgery, 50 to 60 will be symptom-free or almost symptom-free within 3 months, compared to 20 to 30 out of 100 people who do not have the surgery. With surgery, 80 to 95 out of 100 will be symptom-free or almost symptom-free within 1 year, compared to 90 to 95 out of 100 who do not have surgery. Out of 100 people who have back surgery, 10 will need back surgery again within 4 years. Out of 100 people who have do not have back surgery, 10 will need back surgery within 4 years.
