Compensation

Compensation is a process in which the brain learns how to ignore false signals sent from the inner ear that detect motion. These false signals, sent when the inner ear is injured or diseased, conflict with the signals from the other balance centers in the body, resulting in the symptom called vertigo (a false sense of movement).
