Physical Exam for Adult Drug Abuse

A physical exam is one way your doctor looks for signs of drug abuse or dependence. During your physical exam, your doctor may check for:

Nose or lung problems from using cocaine.
Needle marks from injecting drugs.
Small, "pinpoint" pupils in your eyes.
A fast heart rate.
Sweating.
Slurred speech.
A runny nose or watery eyes.
Liver problems.
