In people who have chronic kidney disease, the kidneys have trouble eliminating toxins from the body. For these people, eating too much protein makes it more difficult to prevent a buildup of these toxins.
At the same time, protein is important to keep you strong and healthy. Work closely with your doctor and a dietitian or nutritionist to be sure you are getting the right amount of protein—not too much or too little—in your daily diet.
