Hidden Allergens

Mold, mildew and fungus can make your nose itch and run if you are allergic to them. Allergies can also cause you to sneeze or cough, and make your eyes itch. If you touch, swallow or breathe in something you are allergic to, your body releases chemicals called histamines. These natural chemicals can inflame your nose and throat passages. If you have these symptoms, you might know that these allergens can be found anywhere and on anything:

  • Mold
  • Mildew
  • Fungus
  • Pollen
  • Pet dander

Tips to feel better:

Allergens can easily build up in your home. The following tips will help you get rid of hidden allergens:

  • Change your air filter every month or two.
  • Clean out your refrigerator often.
  • Dust with a moist cloth.
  • Vacuum often.
  • Clean carpets every year
  • Use a dehumidifier if your home is damp, so mold and mildew won’t grow as much.
  • Wash and dry pillows and stuffed toys to kill dust mites.
  • Hose down air conditioner coils, which collect dirt, dust, pollen and dander, once per month.
