Exercise Spikes Brain Power

Did you know exercise can improve brain power, including memory, learning and how we pay attention?

 

When we exercise we increase oxygen to our brains. Oxygen helps brains function, so we recall information better. According to The Franklin Institute's Center for Innovation in Science Learning, using muscles keeps parts of the brain, called synapses, working. A lack of muscle use will break synapses—luckily they can be rebuilt1.

 

Plus, a study by the University of Illinois found that aerobic exercise improves the ability to pay attention among young adults2. So next time you think exercise has nothing to do with the brain, think again. With each workout you strengthen your synapses.
