There's a new way to buy individual health insurance online. It’s called the "Health Insurance Marketplace."
The Marketplace is a website where the public can shop for individual health insurance and HMO plans from several companies. This new online Marketplace allows you to see what each plan offers and decide which plan is right for your family and purchase a plan. You can also learn whether you qualify for federal financial assistance in paying for insurance purchased through the Marketplace.
On October 1, 2013, the Health Insurance Marketplace websites are available on the Internet. You can visit your state's Health Insurance Marketplace online to see the selection of health plan options offered in your state. These plans will take effect as early as January 1, 2014 if you enroll before December 15, 2013.
A few details about the Health Insurance Marketplace:
- Open 24/7/365. Visit whenever you've got time—late evening, early morning, any time.
- Review plans offered by various companies (including Cigna).
- Learn if you qualify for federal financial assistance in paying the cost of health insurance purchased through the Marketplace.
- Enroll in a health insurance plan. (Or, return to the Cigna site to enroll.)
- Credit cards welcome. Or electronic funds transfer (EFT).
Already a Cigna customer?
Cigna currently offers individual and family health coverage in eight states: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, NC, TN and TX. We’ll continue to provide coverage in 2014 to these eight states, and CT and SC. But we will participate in the state Marketplaces in only five states: AZ, CO, FL, TN and TX. In future years, Cigna will expand our coverage in the Marketplace to other states.
Current Cigna customers can also see what’s new for next year. We’ll let you know your options—so you can decide what’s best for you.
Maybe you should stay on your current plan, or move to a new Cigna plan. We’ll help you understand your options. Review the plans or call 1.866.438.2446, 8:00 am to 10:00 pm (ET), Monday through Friday, to speak to a licensed Cigna agent. You can also contact your insurance agent or broker.
Not ready to shop for a new 2014 plan? If you have or want to enroll in a 2013 Cigna plan and do so by December 15, 2013, you can keep it through December 31, 2014. After that, we can help you enroll in a new plan. If you live in CT or SC, you will have to pick a new plan for 2014.
If you think you qualify for federal financial assistance, but aren’t sure, we can help. Just call 1.866.438.2446, 8:00 am to 10:00 pm (ET), Monday through Friday, to speak to a licensed Cigna agent. If you do qualify for federal financial assistance, you’ll go to the Marketplace to enroll.
Whatever path you take, we’re here to help.
