Beneficiary Information & Resources

CIGNAssurance® gives your employees greater peace of mind

They need to know that their loved ones will have all the support that's needed after they're gone.
That's why we developed CIGNAssurance: to provide access to best-in-class financial, bereavement and legal-services. It's offered on all Personal Accident and Life plans. What makes it one of the best in the industry today? CIGNA makes these services available to beneficiaries with Life or Accident payments of $5000 or more; our competitors' minimum benefit requirement is $10,000. And the services we offer are available at no additional cost to the employer, employees or their loved ones.

Bereavement counseling

We offer access to free, over-the-phone, confidential bereavement service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Beneficiaries can make up to two telephone calls to grief counselors, and schedule up to two free, face-to-face counseling sessions with behavioral-health experts, certified professionals in their field. We'll also provide help in finding community-based programs including educational programs, self-help groups, public resources and nonprofit organizations.

Legal assistance

Beneficiaries can take advantage of 30 minutes of free legal-consultation service by phone, plus a referral program to discounted legal services for help with settling the estate, preparing a will and other issues.

Financial assistance

We'll deposit the insurance proceeds in a free, interest-bearing account, with immediate access through a book of drafts. Beneficiaries can also take advantage of 30 minutes of free financial consultation services over the phone, plus get referrals for additional discounted financial assistance.

Planning guidebook and sample letters

We'll provide beneficiaries with a guidebook to help them understand the probate process, assess their financial situation and take appropriate planning steps. Included in the guidebook are sample letters beneficiaries can use to help them uncover additional policies, accounts and other benefits left them by their loved ones. The forms and planning guidebook (PDF) are also available and downloadable at cigna.com.

Counseling services are not currently available for CIGNA Life Insurance Company of New York policies.
