Dr. Mark Boxer has served as Cigna's Chief Information Officer (CIO) since April 2011. He is responsible for driving Cigna's worldwide technology strategy and overseeing Cigna’s enterprise digital capabilities, and also oversees Cigna's venture innovation fund.
Prior to joining Cigna, Dr. Boxer was Group President, Government Healthcare at Xerox and served as Deputy Global CIO for the Xerox Corporation. Prior to joining Xerox, he was a member of WellPoint’s executive leadership team and served in various leadership roles at that company, including Chief Operations Officer, Chief Information Officer, President of Consumer Health Plans, and Chief Strategy Officer. Before WellPoint, Dr. Boxer was senior vice president of Information Technology and eCommerce at Cigna Healthcare and served as Chief Information Officer at Healthsource, a Cigna acquisition.
Dr. Boxer is a member of the University of Connecticut (UConn) Board of Trustees and serves on the Board of the Connecticut Children's Law Center. He has been recognized as one of Computerworld's "Premier 100" Leaders and by Insurance & Technology magazine as one of their "Elite Eight" Technologists. He is a business advocate and champion for advancing the employment of the disabled.
Dr. Boxer holds a doctorate in Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina and a second doctorate in Global Public Health from Arizona's School of Health Sciences. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from UConn and a Master of Science degree in Information Systems from Drexel University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics from the University of Hartford.
