Paul Sanford

Executive Vice President, Operations, The Cigna Group

Paul Sanford serves as Executive Vice President, Operations, building on his successful 20-plus-year career with the company. He leads customer and client service operations, health care provider solutions and operations, and overall operational effectiveness for The Cigna GroupSM. He is a member of the Enterprise Leadership Team of The Cigna Group, and also serves as executive sponsor of the company’s Virtual Enterprise Resource Group.

Sanford previously served as Senior Vice President of Solutions Delivery and Strategic Operations, responsible for managing the company’s provider network, enabling all U.S. businesses, and rapidly delivering new products and capabilities to the market. He has also led several large-scale initiatives including the company's integration with Express Scripts®, the accelerated transition to its Agile-based business model, and the enterprise capital investment process. In addition, Sanford served as Chief of Staff to the CEO, alongside the Enterprise Leadership Team, to drive critical actions in service of the company's stakeholders and to enable strategic growth of the company.

Prior to joining The Cigna Group, Sanford served in various payer and provider leadership roles at Prudential Health Care, Aetna Health Plans, and Scripps Health for more than 10 years.

Sanford is a Board Member for the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare and serves on the Board of Directors for CIL (the Corporation for Independent Living) in Hartford, Conn. He has served as Trustee and Co-Chair of the Board for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee at the Renbrook School in West Hartford, Connecticut. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.
