Our Philosophy

Every day, we have an opportunity to make a difference in the health of our communities and create a better future.

Our charitable giving philosophy focuses on socioeconomic status, education, neighborhood and physical environment, employment, and social support networks, as well as access to health care–otherwise known as Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). Our philanthropy goes beyond financial contributions to include employee engagement, volunteer activities, and community involvement.

We are uniquely positioned to make a meaningful impact, in areas including health and well-being; education and workforce development; community and social issues; military, veterans, and first responder resources; and other critical global and trending health or social issues.

If you want to learn more about our giving in these topics, contact us via email at FoundationGrants@Cigna.com.

Focus Areas

The Cigna Foundation has funding opportunities focused on different topics in the first three quarters of the year. Refer to the respective grant applications for more details, including deadlines for submissions.

First Quarter

Health and well-being grants will focus on health navigation to improve overall access to care, treatment, and prescriptions. In addition, Healthier Kids For Our Future grants will focus on food insecurity and mental health. Mental health will specifically address loneliness, anxiety, depression and suicide prevention.

Second Quarter

Education and workforce development grants will focus on the education of children enrolled in pre-K, K-8, high school, post-secondary education, and others considering health care related jobs. Additionally, programs are focused on increasing the cultural competency of health care professionals by helping them to better understand health disparities among vulnerable populations.

Third Quarter

Health and well-being grants will provide an opportunity for the applicant to choose from five different topics. Prevention, treatment, and research for chronic diseases; Wellness programs promoting exercise, fitness, and healthy lifestyle choices; Programs addressing mental and/or behavioral health conditions; Dental programs; and maternal, prenatal, and newborn health.

“We are far more powerful when we work together, in close partnership with each other, as well as with our customers, patients, and clients; with health care professionals; with government agencies; and with the communities where we live and work...”
