Cigna Foundation

For more than 50 years, the Cigna Foundation has been delivering on the mission of The Cigna Group, alongside its nonprofit partners, to improve the health and vitality of those we serve.

Our Philosophy

Every day, we have an opportunity to make a difference in the health of our communities and create a better future.

Our charitable giving philosophy focuses on socioeconomic status, education, neighborhood and physical environment, employment, and social support networks, as well as access to health care – otherwise known as Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). Our philanthropy goes beyond financial contributions to include employee engagement, volunteer activities and community involvement.

We meet our charitable giving goals by partnering with nonprofit organizations and through the following grant programs.

2021 Contributions

In 2021, the Cigna Foundation awarded more than $12.5 million in grants to support nonprofits that share our commitment to enhancing health and well-being.

Our Current Grant Programs

Healthier Kids For Our Future®

A five-year, $25 million global initiative that addresses the challenges affecting children’s health today.

Our program has two focus areas: reducing food insecurity, and addressing the mental health and emotional well-being of children throughout the world.

Health and Well-Being

Addresses several critical areas of health, including health navigation to improve overall access to care, treatment, and prescriptions; prevention, treatment, and research of chronic diseases; wellness programs promoting exercise, fitness, and healthy lifestyle choices; programs addressing mental and/or behavioral health conditions; dental programs; and maternal, prenatal, and newborn health.

Education and Workforce Development

Focuses on the education of those enrolled in pre-K, K-8, high school, and postsecondary education as well as others considering health care-related jobs. Additionally, programs are focused on increasing the cultural competency of health care professionals by helping them to better understand health disparities among vulnerable populations.

“We are the partner of choice for nonprofit organizations, health care professionals, government agencies, and leaders in the communities we serve around the world. To deliver on Cigna's mission to improve the health and vitality of those we serve, we must continue to work together to improve access to health care, promote healthy living, and break down barriers related to social determinants of health.”

Susan Stith, President of the Cigna Foundation
