Our five-year initiative to expand and accelerate efforts to support diversity, inclusion, equality, and equity for communities of color.
Our Mission
Launched in 2020, Cigna’s Building Equity and Equality Program is a five-year commitment to continue addressing racism, bias, and socioeconomic status and health disparities for people of color in alignment with Cigna’s mission – to improve the health and vitality of those we serve.
We know people of color experience striking differences in health outcomes compared with their white counterparts, and we know inequity in the workforce presents significant barriers to health for communities of color.
Since the launch of the Building Equity and Equality Program, we’ve taken action to address these health inequities, and others, by partnering with nonprofit organizations and community leaders to fund grant programs through the

Program Components
Through the
We work with Congress and the administration to address and eliminate racial, ethnic, and economic disparities in health care. We also share insights and solutions that address SDOH and strengthen the well-being of all communities.
Racism and bias impact health and overall well-being. We believe no one should confront racism and bias alone.
Our 70,000+ employees sign a commitment of inclusive behavior and collectively donate more than 100,000 volunteerism hours. These hours support social justice, health equity, diversity and inclusion, and community outreach.
To support an inclusive company culture, we require unconscious bias training for all employees and offer inclusive leadership training and resources. We also offer frequent discussions about systemic racism in America. We believe every employee is responsible for fostering an inclusive company culture where they can bring their whole self to work – and inspire others to do the same.
We recognize that good financial health provides peace of mind, and we also recognize that systemic racism has created a disproportionately negative economic impact on people of color.

Our Enterprise Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council oversees all parts of the Building Equity and Equality Program and reports progress to the Chairman and CEO. We also publish an annual

Our annual DEI Scorecard Report reflects our goal-oriented approach and the targeted actions we’re taking to make meaningful impact in three key areas – colleagues, clinical, and communities.
