BLOOMFIELD, Conn. - September 27, 2011 - Cigna (NYSE: CI) announced today that Mark Laitos, M.D. has been appointed as the market medical executive for Cigna's Mountain States region. Dr. Laitos will provide senior level clinical leadership in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, ensuring that the most cost effective and quality health care is provided to clients and customers. He will be based in the company's Greenwood Village, Colo. office.

Prior to joining Cigna, Dr. Laitos was a private practice family physician in Longmont, Colo. for 28 years. He also served as president and chairman of the board of directors for the Colorado Medical Society, a delegate to the American Medical Association's House of Delegates, and a medical director of the Boulder Valley Care Network integrated system development.
Board-certified with the American Board of Family Practice, Dr. Laitos earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado Medical School and completed his family practice residency at the University of Utah affiliated hospitals. He currently serves as a leading medical voice in Colorado's Center for Improving Value in Healthcare, created through an executive order by former Colorado Governor Bill Ritter. The objective is to build a multi-stakeholder consensus about transformation to systems of high-quality, cost-effective health care in the state.
