Cigna and Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Reach Agreement, Renew Relationship

CHARLESTON, S.C., August 06, 2012 - Cigna (NYSE:CI) and Roper St. Francis Healthcare announced today that they have reached an agreement on a new contract. Physicians directly employed by the healthcare system, Roper St. Francis Physician Partners, will once again be part of the Cigna network of participating health care professionals effective August 15, 2012. Cigna customers who receive services from these physicians will again be covered at the in-network benefit level, according to the terms of their health care benefits plan.

"We are pleased to renew our long-standing relationship with Roper St. Francis Healthcare and to once again offer our customers in-network access to this group of system-employed physicians," said Charles Pitts, president and general manager for Cigna in the Carolinas. "At Cigna, we work to provide our customers with access to a broad network of high-quality health care professionals while also balancing our clients' and customers' needs to manage costs. We believe we have achieved both goals under our agreement."

The new agreement means that Cigna customers in the Charleston area have the option to seek in-network care from the approximately 200 board certified physicians employed by Roper St. Francis. Pitts said Cigna and Roper St. Francis Physician Partners had been working since earlier this year on a contract renewal, after the agreement between the two organizations expired on February 1, 2012.
