PORTSMOUTH, N.H. and WILMINGTON, Del. - May 8, 2012 - Bottomline Technologies (Nasdaq: EPAY), a leading provider of cloud-based payment, invoice, and banking solutions, and Cigna Global Health Benefits, a global health services subsidiary of Cigna (NYSE: CI), today announced that Cigna's sustainability efforts have resulted in its selection as the recipient of Bottomline's 2012 "Think Green" award. Established in 2009, Bottomline's "Think Green" award program recognizes organizations that use Bottomline solutions to drive environmentally-friendly business practices.
Cigna is using Bottomline's WebSeries ® enterprise payments hub to generate electronic claims and benefits statements and to automate payments, allowing patients, doctors, and hospitals to view statements and remittance advice online rather than receiving them through the mail. This enables Cigna to save paper and reduce its carbon footprint, while providing its clients and partners with an efficient, easy-to-use method of accessing important payment and patient information.
"We're honored to receive Bottomline's 'Think Green' award," said Tom Philibotte, Senior Director of Operations for Cigna Global Health Benefits. "It's a testament to the work we do every day to create and deliver socially responsible business practices that focus on building a healthier planet and healthier business. Our partnership with Bottomline continues to help Cigna deliver important financial communications through new tools that improve the customer experience and benefit the environment."
Cigna Global Health Benefits, a leader in the globally mobile employee market covering more than 870,000 customers around the globe, launched the option for a paperless, "green" Explanation of Benefits (EOB) earlier this year. Now, Cigna customers in more than 205 countries and jurisdictions across the globe can opt-out of receiving these documents in the mail. EOBs are accessible through Cigna's online customer website, Cigna Envoy®, from anywhere in the world.
"We are delighted to recognize Cigna's commitment to the environment with our 2012 'Think Green' Award," said Rob Eberle, President and CEO of Bottomline. "As Cigna's experience demonstrates, Bottomline solutions enable organizations to migrate from paper to electronic processes, achieve greater efficiency and improve customer service. We look forward to continuing to support Cigna in working to create a healthier environment."
