- January 17, 2012 - Cigna (NYSE: CI) announced today that John Keats, M.D. has been appointed as the market medical executive for Cigna HealthCare of Arizona. In this role, Dr. Keats will provide senior level clinical leadership, ensuring that the most cost effective and quality health care is provided to clients and customers. He will also work closely with leadership from Cigna Medical Group, the group practice division of Cigna HealthCare of Arizona, to align the strategies of both organizations and ensure success in the market. Dr. Keats will be based in the company's Phoenix office.

Dr. Keats joins Cigna with more than 30 years of health care experience, most recently with Catholic Healthcare West as the president and medical director of California Healthfirst Physicians and medical director for perinatal safety. He was previously with Buenaventura Medical Group in California for over 22 years, serving as its medical director and responsible for the overall performance of the provider organization on all utilization, quality and costs indicators set by the health plans. Dr. Keats was also an assistant clinical professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
Board-certified with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Keats earned his medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and completed his residency at the UCLA Medical Center. He has been actively engaged with the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in a variety of roles.
