Cigna Recognizes Prestonwood Baptist Church and Prestonwood Christian Academy for Commitment to Employee Health and Wellness

DALLAS - October 29, 2015 - Cigna (NYSE: CI) has selected Prestonwood Baptist Church and Prestonwood Christian Academy as a recipient of the annual Cigna Well-Being Award for demonstrating a strong commitment to improving the health and well-being of its employees through a workplace wellness program.
 
The foundation of Prestonwood's "Fit for Life" wellness program is Pastor Jack Graham's book, Are You Fit for Life? Dr. Graham writes that people must be well in every sense - physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually - in order to serve others well. In 2013, Prestonwood partnered with Cigna to build the framework of the Fit for Life program on Dr. Graham's foundation.
 
Prestonwood promotes a culture of health by providing staff with multiple healthy lifestyle opportunities. Some of these include: free annual onsite biometric screening and health assessment events, an annual family fun run and 5K, an onsite workout facility, healthy menu choices in the cafeteria, physical activity-based staff development days, free lunchtime healthy lifestyle seminars, weekly healthy lifestyle emails, and CPR training.
 
"This combination of resources gives our staff multiple opportunities to confidently make healthy lifestyle choices or be motivated by seeing others making those right choices," said Julie Seal, Prestonwood's wellness coordinator. "With strong incentives in place, 72 percent of our employees have completed biometric screenings and 69 percent have completed a health assessment."

Prestonwood attributes the success of its Fit for Life program to the senior management team, which helps with idea generation and communication support. The executive team supports the program by dedicating resources to incent and reward participants and enhance the onsite workout facility. It also provides a healthy lunch for quarterly seminars. Mike Buster, executive pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church, includes wellness-related information in his weekly staff updates, mentors staff regarding healthy lifestyle choices, and regularly engages and organizes staff for fitness activities.
 
Employers that apply for the Cigna Well-Being Award are evaluated based on the core components of their wellness program, including goals, implementation, incentives, leadership engagement and employee participation. All applications are reviewed and judged by Cigna's internal multi-departmental review committee.
