Take several former interns about to graduate from college, over eighty AEDP members and graduates, and three spectacular days can only mean one thing – Intern Weekend. Intern Weekend is an opportunity to reunite prior actuarial interns, reconnect with our actuarial community, and remind our former interns why Cigna is such a great place to develop and achieve your career goals, all while providing additional perspective into the upcoming transition to a full-time actuarial career at Cigna. The most recent Intern Weekend was held this past November in Hartford, CT.
The weekend kicked off with a happy hour on Thursday evening. The interns were given a warm welcome from the AEDP community including program members, summer intern managers, and leaders across the actuarial community. Our former interns reconnected with their summer colleagues and were reminded what it feels like to be a part of Cigna's strong actuarial community. Then, the interns and Intern Committee headed to a delicious, three-course dinner to reminisce about the summer, catch up on recent events and discuss the life of an AEDP member at Cigna in a more intimate setting.
On Friday morning, the interns headed to the Cigna office to meet with members of the AEDP community in a series of one-on-one conversations. Candidates had the chance to meet with everyone from current program members to executives who graduated from the program, including the Chief Underwriting Officer, the Business Financial Officer of U.S. Healthcare and the President of the U.S. Individual Segment. During these Intern Weekend discussions, our former interns elicited honest opinions and advice about Cigna, including career paths, the community, the business, the future of the company, etc. After a short lunch, the interns then embarked on a housing tour to view a few local apartment complexes where they might live after graduation. Then, everyone headed back to the hotel to rest up for the jam-packed fun that lied ahead.
The remainder of the weekend reminded our interns what Hartford and the AEDP community has to offer. Dinner and a comedy show on Friday night catered to the light-hearted crowd. On Saturday morning, the interns and Intern Committee enjoyed family style brunch and set out for a more cultural experience – a matinee showing of the Tony award-winning play, Wicked, at Hartford’s historic Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts. The weekend came to a close with a “build your own” gourmet burgers and mac and cheese party at a local pub, a tasty finish to an exciting weekend.
Overall, Intern Weekend was a great success. We are excited to welcome another large class of former interns back to Cigna as full-time members of the AEDP this summer!
