Frequently Asked Questions
Where are associates in the program located?
Candidates are located in our headquarters in Bloomfield, CT for both their summer internship and first rotation. While associates are not required to relocate as a condition of the program, after completing the first rotation, the program will support associates in moving across the country to pursue future rotations and development opportunities.
How does Cigna decide my first role and how much say do I have in the decision?
The incoming associate and program manager will work with the executive steering committee to locate the associate’s first role. Together, they will consider previous experience and desire for a stretch assignment. The associate’s interests, skills and aptitude will be considered alongside the needs of the business to find the right “fit.” The first rotation is about putting people in the right position to succeed with some quick wins while learning more about Cigna. There is a vested interest in roles that have a manager that develops their people, as well as projects that are interesting, important, and provide visibility within the organization. In recent years, we've recognized the importance of the program manager really understanding each aspect of the business and helping associates negotiate the right first role and well as subsequent roles.
We will provide the opportunity for full-time associate hires to speak with their prospective manager and interview for the position to assure there is a match. When possible, we’ll provide the associate an interview for multiple positions to determine the best role.
Can I rotate internationally?
This is a work in progress. While we haven’t had anyone live abroad yet, we have many associates who have global exposure and oversight in their domestic role. We currently have associates actively pursuing international placements, so if there is a role that fits the business need and the skill levels, we may have international representation soon! It is our program manager's hope that as we connect with our global business, associates will have the opportunity to take global market journeys to visit our partners abroad. In addition, to understand our global business more, interested associates will have an opportunity to complete a global business acumen course in Antwerp or Glasgow.
Is there a formal mentorship program?
We have a two-tiered mentor system where new associates align with a current Health Leadership Program associate that has been in the program for a few years, as well as an executive mentor. Each relationship is unique. Some of our existing mentors and associates meet quarterly or monthly. The pace and conversation topics are up to each associate and their mentor. We are focusing on adding more structure around the mentorship program. In addition, many of our associates serve as mentors to others within the organization, specifically the Operations Leadership Program, which is a program primarily for undergraduates.
