Lindane Medicated Shampoo (LINDANE SHAMPOO - TOPICAL)

This medicine is used for the following purposes:

  • lice
  • scabies

Instructions

DO NOT take this medicine by mouth.

Ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist to show you how to use this medicine correctly.

Shake the bottle well before using the medicine.

Using this medicine with oil-based products increases the risk of serious side effects. Do not use any oil-based hair products, such as conditioners, before or after using this medicine.

If there is any oil-based product on the hair, wash hair thoroughly with a non-conditioning shampoo before using this medicine. Dry hair completely and wait at least one hour before using.

Wear gloves made of nitrile, vinyl or latex with neoprene while handling this medicine. Do not use natural latex gloves.

Rub the medicine into dry hair and scalp.

Keep eyes tightly closed and covered with a towel while medicine is being applied.

Cover entire head, including behind ears and the back of the neck, and all of the hair with medicine.

Leave it on for exactly 4 minutes. Do not cover hair with a cap or towel. After 4 minutes, add a small amount of warm water and rub until a lather forms. Rinse hair well. Do not let the medicine touch other areas of the body while applying and rinsing.

Continue to wear gloves while towel-drying hair and combing.

Comb hair with a fine-toothed comb to remove lice and their eggs (nits) afterward.

Do not re-treat with this medicine without your doctor's approval.

Keep the medicine at room temperature. Avoid heat and direct light.

Please ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist how to discard unused medicines safely.

This medicine should only be used on the skin.

This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.

You must follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully to kill all the bugs and avoid becoming infected again.

Family members and anyone who has been in close contact should be checked to see if they also need to be treated.

Avoid getting the medicine in the eyes, nose, or mouth. Wash the medicine off your fingers after applying it.

Do not use on damaged or irritated skin, or skin that has not healed.

Wash your hands after applying the medicine.

Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth after handling the medicine.

If medicine gets in your eyes, rinse well with cool water.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all your medicines. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines.

This medicine is associated with an increased risk for seizures. Please ask your doctor whether you may be at risk for having a seizure while on this medicine.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine.

Do not breastfeed while on this medicine.

Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor immediately.

Do not share this medicine with anyone who has not been prescribed this medicine.

If symptoms do not get better or they get worse 1–2 weeks after using this medicine, contact your doctor.

Some patients have serious side effects from this medicine. Ask your pharmacist to show you the information from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and discuss it with you.

  • burning or stinging
  • skin irritation where medicine is applied
  • skin redness

Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:

  • dizziness or drowsiness
  • seizures
  • vomiting

A few people may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
