What is the most important information I should know about sincalide?

You should not receive sincalide if you have a blockage in your intestines.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Receiving this medicine during pregnancy may result in a miscarriage or premature labor.

What is sincalide?

Sincalide is used to help diagnose disorders of the gallbladder or pancreas.

Sincalide is also used to speed up digestion of barium, a contrast agent, given in preparation for x-ray examination of the intestines.

Sincalide may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before receiving sincalide?

You should not be treated with sincalide if you are allergic to it, or if you have a blockage in your intestines.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

gallstones.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Receiving this medicine during pregnancy may result in a miscarriage or premature labor.

It may not be safe to breast-feed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risk.

How is sincalide given?

Sincalide is given as an infusion into a vein.

A healthcare provider will give you this injection as part of your medical test or x-ray.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Sincalide is used as a single dose and does not have a daily dosing schedule.

What happens if I overdose?

Since this medicine is given by a healthcare professional in a medical setting, an overdose is unlikely to occur.

What should I avoid before or after receiving sincalide?

Follow your doctor's instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.

What are the possible side effects of sincalide?

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have:

severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach cramps; or
a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out.

Common side effects may include:

stomach pain or discomfort; or
nausea.
