Breast Cancer Survivors, Including Cigna Employees, to Perform During Arizona Cardinals' Halftime Show on Sunday

Cigna Again a Sponsor of Cardinals' Breast Cancer Awareness Game
Phoenix - Oct. 2, 2013 - Cigna will honor its employees and all those who have battled breast cancer as four Cigna employees and a Cigna guest, along with other breast cancer survivors, perform in the halftime show with the Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders at this Sunday's Cardinals' Breast Cancer Awareness Game. The game, sponsored by Cigna, is October 6, 2013 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
"As a sponsor and as one of the leading health care organizations in Arizona, we want to celebrate people in the community who have been faced with this disease," said Edward Kim, president of Cigna in Arizona. "We also hope to help raise greater awareness in the community about the importance of breast health and preventive screenings."
Cigna employees and a guest of Cigna who are cancer survivors participating in the halftime show include:
· Estella Arce of Tolleson
· Angela Ferrebee of Mesa
· Heather Jaeger of Glendale
· Mary Kratchman of Peoria
· Cigna guest, Susan Lindsey of Safford
Lindsey was at last year's Breast Cancer Awareness game and watched the halftime show from the stands. She had no idea that the next day she would find a lump in her breast, and a year later would be on the field performing as a guest of Cigna. " I am grateful Cigna sponsored the event because in a way, it saved my life," said Lindsey. "I just remember feeling so empathetic towards the women on that field and saying to my friends, 'If I ever had breast cancer, I would want to be brave like those women. Brave enough to be on the field with no hair in front of a huge crowd to celebrate surviving.' It was 16 hours after that halftime show that I found my lump."
Lindsey has been undergoing treatment over the past year including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. "This will be an amazing day of celebration for me as I celebrate life and being a breast cancer survivor 12 days after my year-long treatment ends," Lindsey said.
"Breast cancer can strike anyone at any time," said Victoria Lee, M.D., a board certified general surgeon for Cigna Medical Group and member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. "Self exams, annual physicals and mammograms are the key to early detection and the best chance of survival."
Fans are invited to Cigna's booth before the game on the Great Lawn to get an autograph and have their picture taken with Arizona Cardinals alumni Derek Kennard and Frank Sanders. Cigna will be distributing educational information and giving fans a chance to win a signed Arizona Cardinals jersey by quarterback Carson Palmer #3.
In addition to the Breast Cancer Awareness game, this is the fourth season Cigna has partnered with the Cardinals to donate money to benefit a local charity with the "Kick for Kids" program. For every field goal the Cardinals make during the season, Cigna makes a contribution to Cardinals Charities. This year, the program benefits Florence Crittenton of Arizona whose mission is to give every girl whose life they touch safety, hope and opportunity.
