Cigna Names Greg Allen as President of Tennessee Market
NASHVILLE, Tenn. & BLOOMFIELD, Conn., August 18, 2015 - Cigna (NYSE:CI) has named Greg Allen as president for the Tennessee market. In this newly-created position, Allen will have leadership responsibility for the products and services Cigna offers in the state of Tennessee, including employer-based group benefit plans and also plans offered to individuals and those who are eligible for Medicare.
Allen's primary areas of focus will be to enhance customer satisfaction through personalized service; help improve health and affordability by developing Tennessee-specific programs and collaborations with health care professionals; and to lead Cigna's efforts to serve the community. Allen will be based in Nashville.
"Greg is a proven leader who has over 20 years of experience in health care," said Andrew Crooks, regional vice president for Cigna. "For the past 10 years, he has worked closely with Tennessee doctors, hospitals and other health care professionals to innovate and create better ways of working together, and he has close ties to the community. With this deep understanding of local health care needs, he will continue the company's mission to improve the health, well-being and sense of security of the people and communities we serve."
Prior to this new role, Allen served in several leadership positions at Cigna-HealthSpring, joining HealthSpring when it was first formed in 2000 and continuing in a leadership position after Cigna's acquisition of HealthSpring. Most recently, he served as the leader of the Alabama and Tennessee markets and previously as HealthSpring president of the Tennessee market, one of the company's largest Medicare Advantage markets. In this role, he was responsible for all aspects of the market's operations as well as financial performance and business development.
Before joining Cigna-HealthSpring, Allen was director of finance for HealthSpring's predecessor company, North American Medical Management, a physician management company. During his career, he also held financial analysis roles with Prudential Health Care and Aetna U.S. HealthCare.
Allen is a graduate of the Nashville HealthCare Council Fellows program under the direction of Senator Bill Frist and Vanderbilt University' s Larry Van Horn. Allen graduated from Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting. He subsequently became licensed as a certified public accountant in Texas.
