Shatterproof Unveils Comprehensive Substance Use Disorder Resource Website

BLOOMFIELD, Conn.- January 31, 2017 - A new website, http://www.shatterproof.org/, was unveiled today with support in part from a $100,000 Cigna Foundation World of Difference grant to Shatterproof, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the devastation that addiction causes families. The site provides an online community for families to learn about evidenced-based prevention, treatment and recovery, to learn how to educate others to reduce stigma, and to unite in comfort and in strength knowing they are not alone.
"For every major disease in the U.S., there is one well-funded national organization that consolidates research and resources, providing the public with the most up-to-date, evidence-based information related to its respective disease. Yet there was no such comprehensive educational information site for addiction - until now," explained Gary Mendell, Shatterproof founder & CEO. "We now have one centralized, accessible and regularly updated online site to house a powerful body of information."
The Shatterproof site is a comprehensive, interactive online portal to store and disseminate the most up-to-date, evidence-based information on how to understand, prevent, intervene, treat, and recover from the disease of addiction. The Shatterproof site delivers resources on a range of relevant topics for families confronting substance use disorder.
"The Cigna Foundation is very proud to play a part in helping Shatterproof provide access to information. We believe this can save countless lives and reduce enormous human suffering in communities across the United States," said David Figliuzzi, executive director of the Cigna Foundation.
Shatterproof leads the largest series of peer-to-peer events across the country dedicated to raising awareness of substance use disorder. The Shatterproof Challenge Rappel, an event where participants rappel off skyscrapers to raise money and reduce stigma, was held in eight cities in 2016. Cigna was a leading sponsor across several events and hundreds of Cigna employees participated, as seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEdPO-TREhw. Shatterproof will continue the Shatterproof Challenge Rappel series in 2017 and will be adding a new event series, the Rise Up Against Addiction 5k in five cities.
