What Is STAR+PLUS?

STAR+PLUS is a Texas Medicaid managed care program designed to provide health care, acute and long-term services and support through a managed care system. The program provides a range of options to meet individual needs.

At Cigna-HealthSpring, we can help you choose the plan options that are right for you. We will work together with you, your family and Primary Care Provider to help coordinate health, long-term and other support services. Call Cigna-HealthSpring Member Services if you need assistance or have questions. We are open Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Time, excluding state-approved holidays.

STAR+PLUS is a Texas Medicaid managed care program for people who have disabilities or are age 65 or older. People in STAR+PLUS choose their own medical plan. They get Medicaid health care and long-term services and support through their plan.

Long-term services and support includes things like:

  • Help in your home with basic daily activities.

  • Help in making changes to your home so you can safely move around.

  • Short-term care to provide a break for caregivers.

  • Help with things that need to get done.

Another feature of STAR+PLUS is service coordination. Service Coordinators help the member get the care they need. They work together with members, caregivers, and providers to find the right care.

STAR+PLUS does not change how people get their Medicare services. They must pick a STAR+PLUS medical plan, but don't pick a main doctor. They get regular health care from their Medicare doctor and providers. The STAR+PLUS medical plan only gives Medicaid long-term services and supports.
