Medicare Advantage (Part C) Enrollment and Eligibility

Find out if you can join Cigna Medicare Advantage (Part C). You can also learn how to sign up.

Can I join a Medicare Advantage plan?

Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) is both Part A and Part B coverage (also known as Original Medicare).1 This can include dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage, as well as no-cost extras.

If you want to enroll, you must:

  • Be eligible for Medicare
  • Be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B (you can check this by referring to your red, white, and blue Medicare card)
  • Not have end-stage renal disease (ESRD)
  • Live within the plan’s service area (which is based on the county you live in–not the state)

Find your plan service area with our Plan Finder tool

Based on the plan, there may be specific enrollment details. You can contact us for this information, or use our enrollment tool.

Once you are enrolled, the private company supporting your Medicare plan (like Cigna) will set up your benefits. You do not lose your Original Medicare.

When can I sign up?

If you are eligible for Medicare Advantage, you can enroll during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). This is from October 15 - December 7, each year.

When can I switch plans?

With a Medicare Advantage Plan, you can switch:

  • To Original Medicare Part A and leave your plan. You can switch from January 1 - March 31.
  • During the next Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), if you wish to return to your Original Medicare Part A and Part B coverage. This is October 15 - December 7.

Special Election Periods (SEPs)

You can make changes to your Medicare Advantage plan when certain events happen in your life such as moving, losing a different health plan, or if you need Extra Help. These chances to make changes are called Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs).

  • You are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid which lets you enroll at any time during the year.
  • You are eligible and have lost your prior prescription drug coverage which is your "creditable coverage.”
