Our Three Strategic Focus Areas
Our Cigna Connects corporate responsibility platform is focused on three key focus areas: Health and Well-Being, Environment, and Inclusive and Responsible Business.
Within each focus area, we aim to apply our global health services expertise, resources, and innovative thinking to help solve complex challenges globally and within key markets. These focus areas are also interrelated and mutually reinforcing.
Health and Well-Being
Cigna is working to make health care better for all. Building a sustainable health care system involves lowering health risks, fostering health equity, improving health status, and promoting preventive health interventions.
As a health services company, we take a precautionary approach to our environmental sustainability efforts, believing that environmental stewardship has a health impact and also makes sound business sense as we strive to identify new efficiencies and make strategic investments that reduce our environmental impacts and our operating costs.
Inclusive and Responsible Business
Our relationship with stakeholders helps us to better understand what's most important to them and how to work together towards the goal of bringing positive changes to society and achieving inclusive, responsible global growth.
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Reporting Frameworks
Cigna is committed to transparent disclosures of its ESG program, which includes three focus areas that are material to our business, align with our mission, and create shared value. These focus areas are health and well-being, environment, and responsible and inclusive business.
In addition to our long-standing utilization of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, Cigna will be using the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework for our climate-related disclosures in our 2020 Cigna Connects Corporate Responsibility Report, to be published mid-year 2021. Additionally, Cigna is committed to mapping our ESG disclosures to the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) reporting framework by December 31, 2021.
