Committed to Healthier People and Communities
The Cigna Foundation is an independent, charitable entity established to help enhance the health, well-being and sense of security enjoyed by people everywhere. It provides direct grants to nonprofit organizations working to create healthier individuals, families and communities. Cigna Foundation programs also support the volunteerism of Cigna's people.
Realizing the Dream
Cigna was the first health insurance and service company to make a $1 million donation to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Foundation. This tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. makes respect for others a value we pass on to future generations. We invite everyone to share our pride in seeing the Cigna name permanently displayed on the Memorial's Donor Wall. Please visit the MLK Memorial website for more information at MLKMemorial.org.
Supporting Learning and Culture
Cigna's support for education and the cultural life of our communities comes in large part through matching the individual donations of our people. In 2010, the Cigna Foundation provided $305,000 in awards to special education, colleges and cultural organizations through the Cigna Matching Gifts Program.
A Global Perspective
The Cigna Foundation has brought help to people around the world in ways ranging from disaster relief to building Hope Schools in China. And our new Cigna Global Giving Fund will extend our reach to improve the health of individuals, families and communities around the world.
Cigna's collaboration with Water for People combines education, awareness and philanthropy to provide an essential resource to those in need. It's a great example of our approach to building community health on a sustainable basis.
Community Caring Awards
The Cigna Foundation offers the Community Caring Awards to recognize the volunteer service our people provide outside their working hours.
Members of the Cigna team who help others in their communities can direct a Cigna Foundation Grants for Givers award to their volunteer organization. Their service is also recognized through Volunteer of the Month and Volunteer of the Year awards. In 2010, the Cigna Foundation made $55,200 in Community Caring grants to support the work of 120 organizations our people serve.
This program is available to current Cigna employees, directors and retirees. If you wish to participate, download the Cigna Community Caring Awards Application today.
