Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Health Care Gives Cigna the Gold

· Cigna Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is top-performing plan in Coalition's health plan score card
· Rankings based on eValue8TM results in the Lehigh Valley and eastern Pennsylvania
Blue Bell, Pa., - Sept. 6, 2012 - The Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Health Care (LVBCHC) has named Cigna's Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan a "Gold" plan in their first-ever health plan score card, released to the Coalition's health care purchaser members in late August. Cigna PPO is the top-performing plan in the score card.
The Coalition developed the LVBCHC Health Plan Score Card to report on health plan performance. The designation is based on each health plan's eValue8 scores in the Lehigh Valley and eastern Pennsylvania market areas and in comparison to national eValue8 benchmarks. The Coalition assigned a gold, silver or bronze plan designation based on results in each of seven eValue8 modules as well as overall performance. Cigna earned six gold designations and one silver designation. Scores reflect the plans' responses as of February 2012. Gold designation indicates a market leader.
"The goal of our health plan score card is to give our members an "apples to apples" comparison of health plan performance they can use when they are making purchasing decisions," said Tom Croyle, president of the Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Health Care. "The report goes beyond looking at just costs and networks and incorporates measurement across multiple categories to gauge overall value. Cigna's PPO plan is one of the leading plans in our market."

eValue8 was created by business coalitions and employers to measure and evaluate health plan performance. eValue8 asks health plans probing questions about how they manage critical processes that control costs, reduce and eliminate waste, ensure patient safety, close gaps in care and improve health and health care.
Health plans provide detail on how they educate, engage and incent consumers to promote health and manage disease, as well as measure and pay providers. Plans and purchasers receive objective scores enabling comparison of plans against regional and national benchmarks and a roadmap for improvement. eValue8 enables payers of health care to become active purchasers, setting expectations and goals that will fundamentally improve the value of their health care dollar and health of their employees.
