National Business Group on Health Honors Cigna
- Cigna among 66 companies named as a Best Employer for Healthy Lifestyles
- Fifth year for Cigna as a Platinum winner
BLOOMFIELD, Conn., June 27, 2012 - The National Business Group on Health (NBGH), a non-profit association of large U.S. employers, today honored Cigna for its commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging workers and their families to maintain healthy lifestyles.
Cigna was among 66 U.S. employers who received the 2012 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the NBGH Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being. For the fifth consecutive year, Cigna received a Platinum Award for its Healthy Life program - and it's the seventh consecutive year that Cigna has been recognized.
"When we introduced Healthy Life more than six years ago, our employees embraced the opportunity to be more invested in their personal health and to lead by example for both our customers and for other employees," said Mary Bianchi-Burnett, Human Resources and Healthy Life Program Manager. "And they've really stepped up to the challenge. Whether it's making better choices in our cafeterias, becoming more physically active or successfully managing a chronic condition, Cigna employees and their families are more engaged and proactive role models when it comes to their health."
Healthy Life is a health and wellness strategy designed to help Cigna employees and their families achieve their personal health potential while increasing workplace productivity and lowering the costs associated with medical care and time lost from work. The program is part of the portfolio of benefits and services offered to Cigna employees. Through Healthy Life, employees and their families take full advantage of Cigna's health advocacy programs, incentives for maintaining healthy behaviors, and on-site services. For example, enrollment for the Cigna Healthy Pregnancies, Healthy Babies program is at an all-time high of 66 percent, demonstrating that employees see the value of working with a coach to help them make healthy choices throughout their pregnancy. Cigna's onsite fitness centers have increased in number to 16 sites across the country, reaching more than 13,000 employees.
Winners of the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards were honored in one of two categories: Platinum, for established healthy weight, healthy lifestyles programs with measurable success and documented outcomes; or Gold, for creating cultural and environmental changes that support employees who are committed to long-term behavior changes.
