Cigna HealthCare of Arizona Medicare Advantage HMO Plan Rated Among the Highest in Arizona for Third Consecutive Year by CMS
28 October 2013
Phoenix - Oct. 28, 2013 - Cigna HealthCare of Arizona is proud to announce its Medicare Advantage Plan achieved a 4.5-star out of 5-star rating for the third consecutive year by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) whose scores are based on more than 50 performance measures in several areas such as preventive care, chronic disease management and customer service.
"No other health plan in Arizona rates higher than Cigna," said Robert Matura, vice president of Cigna Medicare Sales. "We earned our rating based on performance in areas such as detecting and preventing illnesses, patient ratings, patient safety, disease management and customer service. We continually work hard to provide quality medical services to our patients, and once again our score reflects our strong commitment to seniors in Arizona."
The CMS five-star rating system measures clinical quality and performance benchmarks for Medicare Advantage plans based on more than 50 performance measures that are collected through three surveys: HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set), CAHPS (Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) and HOS (Health Outcomes Survey).
One area Cigna received high scores in was for its Medication Therapy Management (MTM) program. This program is offered to Medicare Advantage customers who meet certain qualifications set by Medicare which include: taking multiple medications, having multiple chronic conditions or having high annual drug costs. The program helps customers take full advantage of their drug benefit and encourages customers to meet with a Cigna Medical Group pharmacist to ensure that they are taking their medication correctly. Cigna Medical Group is accessible to Medicare customers exclusively through a Cigna Medicare Advantage plan.
"We are very proud of our 4.5-star rating from CMS because it's a true reflection of the excellent care we provide our patients," said Edward Kim, president of Cigna in Arizona. "The Medication Therapy Management program is just one example of the many innovative ways our Medicare Advantage plan and Cigna Medical Group work hand-in-hand to provide a personalized medical approach to keep our customers healthy."
Cigna is now enrolling customers for 2014 during the Medicare annual enrollment period which ends Dec. 7, 2013. Some highlights of its Medicare Advantage plans include:
